Response to the publication of school performance tables

Tristram Hunt MP, Labour’s Shadow Education Secretary, responding to publication of school performance tables said:

“Both parents and teenagers will be greatly concerned by chaos in the exam system brought about by David Cameron’s schools policy. It is taking the country backwards and threatening standards. Andy Burnham MP, Labour’s Shadow Health Secretary, responding to the King’s Fund’s report on David Cameron’s record on the NHS, said:

“Labour warned David Cameron that his reorganisation would damage the NHS and we now have independent authoritative evidence that that is what has happened. “People will remember patients, nurses, doctors and midwives lining up in their thousands and pleading with the Government to call it off. But they ploughed on and plunged the NHS into the chaos we see today.

Ed Miliband MP, Leader of the Labour Party, responding to the Budget Statement, said:

Mr Deputy Speaker, never has the gap between the Chancellor’s rhetoric and the reality of people’s lives been greater than it was today.

Rise in zero hour contracts another stark illustration of recovery which is not working for working people -

Chuka Umunna

Chuka Umunna MP, Labour’s Shadow Business Secretary, commenting on new ONS statistics on the number of zero-hours contracts, said: The Tories’ plan is failing working families. While they prioritise a few at the top, for others there’s a rising tide of insecurity. Ministers have watered down every person’s rights at work and zero-hours contracts have gone from being a niche concept to becoming the norm in parts of our economy.
